Forensic anthropology deals with criminal investigations into the application of anthropology. Various methods and concepts have been incorporated into biological anthropology i.e examination of the physical aspects of humanity. Forensic anthropology is an important part of identifying unknown people. Forensic anthropology is the application of anatomy to anthropology and its various sub-fields, including forensic archeology and forensic taphonomy, in the legal environment. A forensic anthropologist can help identify deceased people whose bodies have been rotted, burned, mutilated, or cannot be recognized, as in a plane crash. Forensic anthropologists also help investigate and document genocide and mass graves. In addition to forensic experts, forensic experts and dentists, forensic anthropologists often testify in court as experts. By using physical markers on the skeleton, a forensic anthropologist might be able to determine a person's age, sex, height, and background. This is useful for identifying people who are still living as undocumented immigrants for legal purposes. This is very important in a legal case where a court must decide whether an undocumented person is considered an adult or a minor.
