Epigenetics Open Access Journals

Epigenetics is the study of heritable modifications in the phenotype that do not require DNA sequence alterations. A broad range of diseases, habits, and other health factors already have some degree of evidence that ties them to epigenetic processes today. There are many pioneering studies on epigenetics which have focused fresh attention. Awareness was raised when it became apparent that understanding epigenetics requires a detailed understanding of all genetic aspects. This mechanism alters gene expression without modifying the sequence of DNA and contributes to changes that can be transferred to daughter cells. Epigenetic processes are normal and necessary for many functions of the organism, but if they occur inappropriately, significant adverse health and behavioral effects may occur.
