Civil-Law-Open Access Articles
Civil law is a civil branch. The term refers to non-criminal
law in common
law systems such as England and Wales, and the United States. Civil misdemeanors and quasi-contracts
law is part of civil law, as is property law. Like criminal
law , civil
law can be broken down into substantive
law and procedural law. Civil
law is concerned primarily with the rights and duties of persons among themselves. Civil proceedings are often suggested for the purpose of obtaining injury compensation, and can be distinguished from criminal proceedings. Exemplary damages or punitive damages in civil proceedings may however be awarded. Some tribunals have both civil and criminal jurisdiction, and civil proceedings can not be defined as civil proceedings. In the United States, the term "judicial tribunals" is used as a jargon for "criminal trials".
