 The reported yield from global aquaculture operations in 2014 supplied over one half of the fish and crustaceans that is directly consumed by humans; however, there are issues about the dependability of the reported figures. Further, in current aquaculture practice, products from several pounds of wild fish are used to harvest one pound of a piscivorous fish like salmon. Particular kinds of aquaculture include shrimp farming, fish farming, oyster farming, algaculture (such as seaweed farming), mariculture, and the cultivation of ornamental fish. Particular methods comprise aquaponics and combined multi-trophic aquaculture, both of which integrate fish farming and aquatic plant farming. Microalgae also stated to as phytoplankton, microphytes, or planktonic algae, constitute the majority of cultivated algae. Macroalgae usually known as seaweed also have many profitable and industrial uses, but due to their size and specific requirements, they are not simply cultivated on a large scale and are most often taken in the wild.
