Adult Stem Cells Journals

Adult stem cells bear at least two features, as do all stem cells. Second, over long stretches of time they may produce similar copies of themselves; this capacity to proliferate is called long-term self-renewal. Secondly, they may generate mature cell types with characteristic morphologies (forms) and specific functions. In the medical literature, descriptions of adult stem cells range from a basic summary of the cells to a stringent set of quantitative standards that must be followed before a single cell is classified as an adult stem cell. An adult stem cell will also be able to give birth to completely developed cells that have mature phenotypes, are completely incorporated into the tissue, and are capable of tissue-specific advanced functions. Bone marrow hematopoietic stem cells are the most studied and used for clinical applications to restore different blood and immune components through transplantation to the bone marrow.
